The next portion of the alternator is the fuel tank, which can be thought of as an important component of the “powerhouse” of the device- which is the engine. The fuel tanks are normally quite large, allowing for an alternator to run for seven hours on average. There are six main parts to the fuel tank which includes a pipe connection, ventilation pipe, overflow connector, pump, separator and an injector.

After the fuel tank comes the voltage regulator, which is designed to control the voltage output of the device. There are 4 main parts of a voltage regulator, each with an essential function. The first part is the actual voltage regulator, which takes AC voltage and converts it into DC current The next part is the exciter winding, which takes the DC current formed by the voltage regulator and converts it into AC current. After this, the next portion of the voltage regulator are the rotating rectifiers, and these help to convert the AC current back into DC current.

The next part of this machine is the cooling and exhaust system. The function of this system is to regulate the temperature of the entire alternator unit. The cooling system works with the use of a coolant, and a common one is hydrogen. The hydrogen helps to remove any excess heat produced by the alternator by absorbing it. Furthermore, the exhaust system works in its own way. Fumes and dangerous chemicals are released by this system, and one should be extremely careful around one.

After the cooling and exhaust system comes the lubricating system. As the name suggests, this system makes use of oils to ensure that the overall alternator unit is running smoothly and that none of the parts get stuck.

The next portion of this machine is the battery charger. This is comparable to a phone charger; essentially, it ensures that the alternator has a constant power supply so that it is able to function as it should.

Next comes the control panel, which is arguably the most important part of this entire device. With this part, the person is able to choose and select how the generator will do its job. This part has several smaller parts that make it up. These typically include the startup button, the engine gauge, the generator gauge, the phase selector switch, the frequency switch and the engine control switch.
